Who is David Hitchcock?
David is a Fellow of the Ergonomics
Society and a registered European Ergonomist, he holds full corporate
membership of the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health;
and is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Health. He is also Head
of CEDS Research and a Director
of the Expert Research & Consultancy
Group.
David has a particular interest
in ensuring holistic and inclusive ergonomics principles are
applied throughout systems and designs.
With his network of ergonomics, psychology,
design, management, usability and safety professionals; working
as independent consultants or as part of multi-disciplinary teams,
project work ranges from short trouble-shooting commissions to long-term
research contracts and ongoing training programmes for a wide variety
of clients.
“I
have known David for 8 years and am pleased to say that he
is an excellent organiser and presenter. He not only knows
his subject well but has the rarer quality of being able
to communicate technical issues in a very interesting and
enthusiastic way.”
Dr David Wenham
Centre for Hazard & Risk Management
“The
Rail Systems Engineering MSc includes eight taught modules,
each of five day duration. The Ergonomics module, led by
David Hitchcock, was by far the most enjoyable, but not due
to lack of relevant content. Although much of the material
can be found in various text books, the value of the module
was in identifying and explaining the issues and their relevance,
with particular emphasis on the railway context. The high
proportion of participative and practical activities proved
successful in enhancing understanding and retention of the
theoretical elements of the module. David's teaching style
is relatively informal, but appropriate for a subject that
is best taught with enthusiastic participation from the students."
Gordon Utting
Docklands Light Railway
"The
training course in ergonomics was informative, interesting
and will be very useful. David Hitchcock was an engaging
trainer who was most open and ready to answer detailed queries
regarding specific projects as well as general ergonomics."
Genevieve Suich
English National Opera
"David
has a very positive approach when training, I find his style
of training informative and interesting. A great coach who
is passionate about what he does. He is approachable, a good
listener and comes up with good ideas.”
Audrey Akuffo
Diageo
“David Hitchcock
has supported undergraduate projects and provided the ergonomics
teaching for the MSc module ‘Industrial Design and
Human Factors’ in recent years. This module is attended
by between 20 and 30 students ranging from new graduates
to mature professionals from industry. I can confirm that
David’s lecturing skills are excellent and he has always
received very good feedback from the students. As well as
providing good understanding of the principles of ergonomics
he is able to relate the theory to practice in a diversity
of real-world situations. I have no hesitation in recommending
his services to anyone who requires ergonomics teaching or
training.”
Andrew J. Taylor
Woolfson School
“David
Hitchcock has worked as a consultant and lecturer for the
Engineering Employers Federation (East Midlands Association)
for a number of years. He is not only reliable but produces
extremely interesting and thought provoking presentations
of the highest standard. The feedback from clients, when
working in a consultancy capacity and delegates are always
very complementary towards his work.”
Ian Taylor
Engineering Employers Federation
"David
is a highly gifted speaker who engages his audience with
knowledge and humour and gets key points across in ways they
don't easily forget. His training is always interesting and
highly effective as he is sensitive to his audience needs
and capabilities and he connects well with the people that
he trains.”
Richard Holmes
The King’s Trust
“David
Hitchcock brings a unique approach to the practical application
of ergonomic theory, he is able to apply his expertise in
way which considers the whole context of a project, which
makes him an invaluable member of any team developing new
retail equipment or environments.”
Matthew Lyons
Boots
"David
always managed to bring the subject of
ergonomics alive so that the trainees remained switched
on, participating in the sessions and demonstrating they
had picked up the fundamentals. He is enthusiastic and he
gets through to people! He can relate to all levels and types
of people and his advice is always helpful and realistic."
